RESUME

With the support of the Spotlight Initiative, UN Women is working with the NGO Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) to end the practice of female genital mutilation in rural communities in Uganda. The program uses a methodology called “SASA!”, a comprehensive model that has been very successful in changing harmful social norms through community participation around the world, and especially in Africa. “UN Women and its partners have used the SASA! to change the mindset of community members. The program uses media, messaging and community dialogue to address the root cause and the social dynamics that allow FGM to persist. It is also aimed at older people in the community who are guardians of traditions and social norms"
