RESUMEN

Nim Alaxik, is a national movement of grandmother midwives, which was born in 2010, and grew stronger in 2016 and 2017. The Movement arose when Mayan Kaqchikel, Kiche, Tuztujil, Mam midwives met to talk about their work , of the service they gave since time immemorial to a large number of families, communities and the country in general. But, they shared a great concern and indignation, and that is that the official health system, far from recognizing their work, persecuted, controlled, despised and discriminated deeply. After several years of work, the Nim Alaxik movement has grown. It was born with the representation of 5 departments and now it is made up of midwives from the 22 departments of the country, who are organized in Departmental Councils of Midwives. Nim Alaxik also emerged as a Movement of Mayan Midwives, but now it is a Movement of Mayan, Xinca, Garífuna and Mestiza midwives.
