RESUME

Plus de 200 millions de filles et de femmes dans 30 pays ont été victimes de mutilations génitales féminines (MGF), selon l'agence des Nations Unies pour l'enfance. L'ONU s'efforce d'éliminer cette pratique. L'estimation mondiale est en hausse de 70 millions par rapport à l'année dernière, en partie grâce aux nouvelles données gouvernementales indonésiennes et à la croissance démographique. La moitié de toutes les MGF ont eu lieu dans seulement trois pays : l'Égypte, l'Indonésie et l'Éthiopie. "Les mutilations génitales féminines diffèrent selon les régions et les cultures, certaines formes impliquant des risques sanitaires potentiellement mortels. Dans tous les cas, les MGF violent les droits des filles et des femmes", a déclaré la directrice générale adjointe de l'UNICEF, Geeta Rao Gupta, dans un communiqué accompagnant un nouveau rapport publié avant la publication du rapport. Samedi, Journée internationale de tolérance zéro pour les MGF.
