RESUME

The Cuetzalan Indigenous Court was initially created in 2003 by the state justice authorities as part of official multicultural policies, but it has become highly relevant for local processes to strengthen indigenous justice (Terven 2009; Chávez 2008). Within the procedures of the Indigenous Court, indigenous women from CAMI and other organizations seek to promote awareness of women's rights. The women of CAMI are part of the Council of the Court and, in this way, it has been possible for them to accompany and participate in a series of cases. Their constant dialogue with indigenous judges seeks to ensure that women's rights are taken into account in their conciliations, even if these contravene customs, for example in cases of rights to alimony, abandonment or mistreatment. The review of the records of the Indigenous Court shows that in 2004, of eighty cases, forty had to do with women; in 2005, of 77 cases in total, 41 were initiated by women; in 2006, out of 78 cases, 43 had female plaintiffs, which demonstrates the importance of the institution for the women of this municipality (Terven 2008: 199). RESUME

The 2007-2012 Health Sector Plan supports the intercultural policy aimed at improving the interrelated quality of services, by avoiding and/or eradicating cultural barriers and increasing cultural sensitivity and friendliness. This program clearly expresses the promotion of intercultural adjustments in the operation of services and in the design of spaces for health care, to favor cultural sensitivity in a society with multicultural characteristics like ours. With this, the aim is to focus the pertinent changes to attend to each user according to their own needs and cultural perceptions in relation to health and disease, achieving, in addition to the clinical impact, user satisfaction. This promotes adherence to medical treatments, the full use of services and their social acceptance. This process is also based on the Ministry of Health's policy aimed at strengthening and expanding the supply of health services with the incorporation of different models, both clinical and therapeutic, as well as health strengthening, under safety and efficacy approaches. This new vision implies important changes in the way of designing spaces and operating health services.

Its objective is the defense of the sexual and reproductive rights of women, as well as the fight against gender violence and the gender gap. The Manos Unidas House of Indigenous Women's Health of Ometepec (State of Guerrero, Mexico) has been awarded the Bartolomé de las Casas Award in its XXVIII edition of 2021. This award serves not only to recognize the important work of the Houses of Indigenous or Afro-Mexican Women, which constitute an essential tool in the defense of women's rights, but also as a posthumous tribute to Martha Sánchez Néstor (1974-2021), activist for the rights of indigenous peoples and defender of women natives. Inaugurated in 2003, the House of the Indigenous Woman of Ometepec is a pioneering initiative of the model of the Houses of the Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Women that has been reproduced in other 35 houses throughout the country, thus becoming a fundamental initiative for the empowerment, the fight against gender violence and the defense of their sexual and reproductive rights. RESUME

The cases of Valentina Rosendo Cantú and Inés Fernández Ortega are presented together, since they are events that happened almost at the same time and the similarities between the two are notorious. However, both cases are independent and are subject to different processes. The rape and torture suffered by these indigenous women occurred in the context of the militarization of the indigenous territories of the Coast-Mountain Region of the state of Guerrero.
